Burgas is joining the Night of museums with attractive new and old exhibits

Regional history museum Burgas will join the Night of museums with its most interesting exhibits. Residents and guests of the city will have the chance to see the precious findings, presented in an attractive manner. The Night of museums is on 16 May, and this is what awaits you at the different exhibitions in Burgas:

 

Natural science museum

OPENING OF A NEW EXHIBITION “FOSSILS”

18:00 hours

The first hall of the museum is completely transformed. Before the fossilized remains of ancient animals and vegetation were only an accent, but now they are the main theme of the new exhibition. Exhibits that have not been shown until now are presented: one cell organisms, sea lilies, corals, a rib, a shoulder blade and tusks of a mastodon and many others. One window display is devoted to Bulgarian endemic and new species for science. The funds for reconstruction of the hall were gathered thanks to a charity campaign “Will they find a new home for the museum”, organized by RHM Burgas last year and devoted to the 30 year anniversary of the Natural science museum.

International photo exhibition “The Wild” – an exhibition of the Bulgarian photographic academy “Yanka Kyurkchieva”. It shows a selection of the best photos presenting the richness and beauty of the wild nature of Bulgaria and other corners of the world.

Opening of the new hall “Prehistory and ancient shipping” and of the exhibitions:“The golden treasure of Preslav”, “Golden horse ammunition of Ivanski village, Shumen” and “The gold of the northern Thracians: the treasures of RHM-Lovech”

On 16 May, when the International day of museums is marked, in the Archeological exhibition of RHM Burgas will be opened the new hall “Prehistory and ancient shipping”. In hall “Treasury” will be presented three golden exhibtions. The first two are from RHM-Shumen.  One presents golden applications of Thracian horse ammunition, found in a burial mound in Ivanski village, Shumen. The horse ammunition is restored on a leather strap on horse’s head in real size, and on it are put the golden elements.

The second exhibition presents a spear of the golden treasure of Preslav. This is the biggest golden treasure of early medieval Bulgaria and is dated from X century. It is composed by over 120 golden and gold-plated adornments: a golden diadem, necklaces, medallions, earrings, buttons, rings and slabs from 14 and 22 carat gold. In their making were used cellular enamel, pearls, aquamarine, mountain crystal and other precious stones.

Also in hall “Treasury” will be opened an exhibition of golden and silver items from the fund of RHM-Lovech. Lots of adornments will be presented – prehistorical, Thracian and Roman earrings, bracelets, necklaces, rings, fibulas, a Roman helmet-mask and many more.

 

FROM 18.30 to 19.15 HOURS, FOR MARKING THE INTERNATIONAL DAY OF MUSEUMS, IN FRONT OF THE ARCHEOLOGICAL EXHIBITION, THE MUNICIPAL BRASS ORCHESTRA WILL PERFORM FOR GUESTS AND RESIDENTS OF THE CITY.

The professor. Bread and lithurgy – Exhibition of National ethnographic museum of Bulgarian Academy of Science

Communion bread seals are particular objects – they are a key element of church life, they participate in the most sacred Christian sacrament. As with evert cult object, in them are put special religious symbols, their form is canonic, but they still have differences. In some parts of the country they are used only in churches, and in others they are a part of the compulsory inventory of every house. In principle the communion breads are closed in the church. During the exhibition visitors will have the opportunity to see a documentary, showing the making of communion bread in the monasteries Simonopetra, Hilendar and Zograf and making of communion bread seals in one of the cells if the Great monastery “St. Atanasius”. Many of the sequences and photographs are unique. The exhibition has a catalogue, in which are shown many of the most interesting examples of communion bread seals.

The exhibition will stay in History museum until 30 September.

EXHIBITION “WITH A FRAGRANCE OF KAZANLAK ROSE IN BURGAS”

Opening: 19:30 hours

HM “Iskra – Kazanlak” is visiting. The exhibition presents the traditional for Kazanlak and the Rose valley production of rose oil – the process of brewage, containers for rose oil, photographs and documents, templets for escort, traders’ pads.
