The most valuable artefacts from the Archeological museum left for the Louvre under heavy security. The exponents were carefully watched by special police during their transport. The statues will first go to the National historical museum in Sofia, and from there they will leave for the emblematic French museum – the Louvre.

In recent months French experts on ancient statues came to Burgas to mend the stone surface of the statues – of the goddess Cybele dated from the end of the 5th century B.C. and of a man made from marble, dated from the 6th century B.C. A kouros statue missing its head is the oldest found in Bulgaria. The statues are a part of a huge exhibition about Thracian culture featuring ancient artefacts found in Bulgaria. The exhibition will be held in mid-April and is patronized by the French cultural institute, the Ministry of Culture, several foreign and 17 Bulgarian museums.
