Today we celebrate the memory of St.George, one of the most revered saints in Bulgaria since the Christianization of the Bulgarians before 11 centuries. St. George is one of the few saints, revered and glorified by both Christians and Muslims. The holiday is celebrated as a Day of Courage and a celebration of the Bulgarian Army.
For Bulgarians, St. George's Day is one of the biggest national holidays, which marks the beginning of summer and the new agricultural year. On this day a sacrifice is made in honor of St. George, the lamb is roasting and the whole family gathers at the festive table.
