Every year on 2 February the World Wetlands Day is celebrated. In 1971, the Wetlands Convention was signed on the same date in the Ramsar town of Iran. The Ramsar Convention is the first and only international document for the conservation and sustainable use of natural resources, geared to specific ecosystems. Initially, the Ramsar Convention was established as an international treaty to protect wetlands primarily as a habitat for waterfowl.

Since then, the Convention is expanding its scope and currently covers all aspects of the conservation and wise use of wetlands, recognizing them as ecosystems of vital importance in terms of biodiversity conservation, water management and human well-being.

During the 2019 the World Day will be celebrated under the theme "Wetlands and Climate Change". This year, the Nature Conservation Center of the Bulgarian Nature Conservation Society "Poda" near Burgas will make a special gift for all who love birds and nature and want to learn more about them. Today to all visitors will be presented a free lecture for protected areas and conservation of wetlands. For more information: http://bspb.org/poda/bg/contact-us.html
