The initiative has been taking place since 1988 with the aim of improving the conditions for breeding birds in the natural reserve. This year, the brigade will be held from 23 to 28 August.
What is expected from the brigade this year?
-to support the existing artificial nesting and resting islands of birds.
One team will be investigating the autumn migration of howling birds (storks, pelicans, cranes, raptors) from a stationary point near the camp. The second team will conduct a survey of waterfowl in the lake. During migration Atanasovsko Lake is an important stop for rest and feeding of a huge variety of species.
Keeping track of the numbers of birds, as well as the feeding and resting places they use, is key information for their conservation. Participants in Atanasovsko Lake camp will have the opportunity to help carry out these studies and gain experience in recognizing and counting different bird species.
