The construction of an anaerobic installation for the treatment of biodegradable waste aims to cover and treat the food waste from households and catering establishments. In the anaerobic digestion of bio-waste, methane will be extracted and a fermentation product ready for recultivation of contaminated sites will be produced at the exit. The design and construction of the installation will begin this year.

It will be financed under the Operational Program "Environment" 2014-2020 in pursuance of the objectives of the Municipality and the Regional Waste Management Association for reducing the quantities of landfilled waste. Anaerobic digestion is a natural process that has been used by mankind for decades. A group of bacteria sequentially break down organic matter and biogas under oxygen-free conditions (anaerobic conditions). The main advantages of this process are biogas production and a significant reduction in the volume of waste.
